A Montreal Police spokesman said it was advised of an emergency aboard the plane before the pilot sought permission to divert the flight and land in Montreal.
An American Airlines jet traveling from Dallas-Fort Worth to Tokyo made an emergency landing there in July 2010 after a fire warning light malfunctioned.
The passengers disembarked and media reported it was due to a bomb threat against the plane.
“They searched the aircraft and diverted us to Montreal”. Flight attendants reportedly searched the plane while it was still in flight, but found nothing.
All of the passengers plus 16 crew were evacuated from the plane without incident or injury. The spokeswoman went on to say that customers, crew and aircraft safety and security is a top priority at all times.
Reports said Canadian authorities were now investigating the threat.
Cpl Francois Gagnon, of the Royal Canadian Mounted police, the national police force leading the operation at the airport, confirmed a bomb threat had been received.
