Beard admits that it’s “still technically possible” for users to preserve their previous settings and defaults during the upgrade, including their choice of third-party browser, but argues that ‘the design of the whole upgrade experience and the default settings APIs have been changed to make this less obvious and more hard.
Still, features like Bitlocker remain, Windows Defender now runs in recovery mode, and the new Edge browser offers a number of significant security improvements that might be enough (coupled with improved performance) to convince you and your users to switch to Edge and leave Chrome (or Firefox) behind.
Microsoft will let consumers know when it’s time to upgrade. Most users will simply click “Next” in the Express Setup without diving into the details.

There were workarounds, but until a few of the kinks are worked out of the system, the possibility will always exist that you’ll come into the office on any given morning to find all your users gathered around your door with torches and pitchforks in hand. In general, however, she said that best practices for new software should make default choices straightforward. However, Microsoft executive in South Africa Anthony Doherty, Windows and Surface Business Group Lead at Microsoft SA, has given a tip.
