Obama’s Transgender Directive to Public Schools Creates Outrage
The guidelines require parents to fill out a form declaring their child as transgender before accommodations are made.

The guidance issued Friday is not legally binding, since the question of whether federal civil rights law protects transgender people has not been definitively answered by the courts and may ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court. The rallying cry was against what Mississippi’s Republican governor said was the federal government’s “forcing a liberal agenda on states that roundly reject it”.
“I could see where the issue is of you’re a male and you became a female but now the females might get a little and vice a versa too”. Until then, there isn’t “a lot of clarity on the issue” and “what processes and procedures that we need to use”. Harassment that targets a student based on gender identity, transgender status, or gender transition is harassment based on sex, and the Departments enforce Title IX accordingly.
“It would have to be something that the school board completely looked over”.
Patrick also said Friday that a lawsuit against the Obama administration is not off the table.
The district offers some gender-neutral bathrooms at its schools, as well as LBGT on-site liaisons at all of the district’s high schools. Sarasota County School District released a statement saying administrators are aware of the document from the Obama administration about transgender students. Hundreds of school districts, from Anchorage, Alaska, and Tucson, Arizona, to Fairfax County, Virginia and Chicago, have adopted similar protections. And what do you think about Friday’s directives from the federal government?
The legislation had 34 sponsors but never received an official hearing.
The move comes in the wake of the controversy surrounding the so-called “bathroom law” in North Carolina.
“If President Obama thinks he can bully Texas schools into allowing men to have open access to girls in bathrooms, he better prepare for yet another legal fight”, Paxton, a Tea Party champion, said in a statement.
He said he didn’t have a line-item veto, meaning he couldn’t strike that measure without vetoing the entire law, including the parts dealing with transgender people in public restrooms. “All of the feedback has been super positive”. “We do not believe we will have to change any of our policies at this time”. “But our visibility has only recently increased”.

“There is no room in our schools for discrimination of any kind, including discrimination against transgender students on the basis of their sex”, Lynch said. That year, the school board adopted a policy that focused on ensuring a discrimination-free learning environment that shows respect for all people, including those who don’t conform to traditional stereotypes, said Oakland Unified Superintendent of Schools Antwan Wilson.
