Saturday’s roundup: Elliott, Blues push Stars to brink

Robby Fabbri and Paul Stastny each had a goal and an assist and Brian Elliott stopped 27 of 28 shots for the St. Louis Blues in a 4-1 win against the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of their second-round playoff series at American Airlines Center on Saturday afternoon. They definitely played their most efficient offensive game on Saturday, collecting four goals on a series-low 22 shots, and if they could manage to be that accurate on Monday, it’d definitely be desirable.

The Stars wrestled back their home ice advantage tying the series with a Game 4 overtime victory forcing the Blues to win two of the next three games without the benefit of a rowdy St. Louis crowd.

The Blues failed to secure a 3-1 series win on Thursday when they lost to the Stars in OT. “We finished where we did because of the way we played throughout the year, and we believed in each other”. Lindy began by reaffirming several previous statements made leading with “I’m gonna say this again, I’m just trying to stay consistent with what we did all year”. There were points where the Blues could have pulled away in Game 4, but they were unable to do so.

Dmitrij Jaskin scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Blues, collecting his own rebound to score his first career playoff goal midway through the second period.

So naturally, because Backes has had a good series and Benn has not kept up his torrid pace, it’s a matter of Backes “stepping up to the plate more” and Benn needing to seize the moment. I thought our leaders were our leaders.

“We’ve been a real good team when we’ve been backed into a corner”, Ruff said.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Brian Elliott’s postseason play is the biggest reason the St. Louis Blues are one win away from their first appearance in the Western Conference finals since 2001.

“I said it’s time for us to man up, and I thought we did”, Ruff said.

All they needed was some goaltending.

Then, Blues captain David Backes took a penalty for tripping to put Dallas on the power play, where Stars captain Jamie Benn slid a puck across Elliott’s crease right to a waiting Patrick Sharp, who tapped it in to give Dallas a 2-1 lead 5:14 into the middle frame.

The Stars looked worse on the play given they had six men on the ice, an infraction that went undetected. “It’s just got to go in”. But it was the Blues cashing in opportunities while the Stars missed.

“We’ve been in this position before”, defenseman Ryan Ellis said.

“I think you in this business, you really need to get rid of the white noise”, Hitchcock said. Hitchcock knows as much.

– The top 3 teams in shots per game in all have been eliminated (Panthers, Hawks and Isles).

It was the longest game in Predators franchise history. “I know I got frustrated; they may have taken on my personality”.

Elliott said it was important for Edmundson to forget about the mistake and move on, focusing on playing better as things roll forward.

Faksa, who had the deciding goal in the Stars’ Game 1 victory, tied it on an unassisted goal off a giveaway by fellow rookie Joel Edmundson. “It was obviously an option skate… but guys wanted to get their feet moving”, Tavares said.

Then a very odd thing happened.
