Kane: Spurs players want to finish above Arsenal

With Arsenal hosting relegated Aston Villa next Sunday, Tottenham can not afford to take anything for granted at St James’ Park, but they should claim north London supremacy for the first time since 1994-1995 and finish as top-flight runners-up for the first time since 1962-1963. Meanwhile, visitors Southampton were still eyeing a last minute Europa League berth. If anything, they’re progressing quite well with Ronald Koeman as manager and could be one of the more underrated Premier League sides in recent seasons.

But after quarter of an hour Spurs made the breakthrough.

Tottenham went ahead early on and the goal owed much to Son’s persistence and composure, together with a split-second of hesitation from Southampton ‘keeper Fraser Forster.

The same combination provided Saints’ victor halfway through the second half when Davies played a neat one-two with Tadic on the edge of the box and scored with a low shot that beat Hugo Lloris in his bottom corner. Spurs have a superior goal difference by +13.

Excellent against Man City last weekend, Tadic plucked the ball out of the air and crossed for Davis, who squeezed his effort past Lloris. Forster keeps out Eriksen with a good reaction save from Rose’s cross.

But Spurs were to be undone again.

Spurs appeared to have run out of ideas.

The first half was entertaining, and Tottenham could reflect on a number of opportunities that went begging.

“We’re still in the fight and, if we win against Crystal Palace, I think we have a good chance to finish in sixth, so that would be massive for us”.

The Argentine continued: “Sometimes you can deserve, but you end up with nothing”. “Sure I want to be above them, but this is normal”.

So the fans are urging us on, they were great but just disappointed we couldn’t do that [against Southampton] but there is still one more game and we will try our hardest.

We at Football Fancast are firm believers that there are lessons to be learned from every match, whether it’s a relegation playoff in the German third tier or the World Cup final.

“We need to analyse our last few games on how to improve our squad and areas of the team”.

“We want to finish as high up as we can, we are not going to focus on anything but ourselves”, Kane added.

Arsene Wenger has promised that it won’t be an annual occurrence should Spurs finish ahead of Arsenal. But we had a good reaction in the game, with some good chances and crosses from Dusan (Tadic).

“We lost because we conceded two goals”. But defeat means they may yet finish behind their north London neighbours after missing out on the ultimate prize.
