Cigarettes Will Be Regulated Like Cigarettes Under New Federal Rules
Health advocates, however, said that the rule is necessary in light of the rapid increase in e-cigarette use, particularly among young people.

Tony Abboud, legislative director for the Vapor Technology Association, chastised the FDA for these rules, saying “the FDA will, in one stroke, kill nearly a decade of innovation in the vapor technology industry”.
New tobacco and e-cigarette regulations have some businesses in IN questioning what will happen next.
The FDA’s regulations also require tobacco manufacturers to submit products for authorization and for product advertisements and packaging to have health warnings. Other restrictions include requiring a photo ID for purchases and prohibiting free samples and vending machine sales.
The Vapor Technology Association called the new federal regulations a one-size-fits-all approach that will devastate small vapor businesses.
Will Hale hasn’t picked up a traditional cigarette since 2012.
Dora the Explorer might think vaping is cool, but the federal government sure doesn’t seem to agree. He heats up the oil with a metal coil inside a device (or “mod”) which in turn creates the well known vapor effect. “They’re saying right now the average cost of that is going to be anywhere from $330,000 per application up to $1 million per item being tested”.
“This will further protect the public and kids from potentially unsafe secondhand emissions from electronic cigarettes”, McCoy said. He worries regulations to stop bad practices will kill an industry built on innovation.
“It ends up leaving us in a situation where we have nothing that will work for certain people and they end up returning to combustible tobacco”, said Babaian. This enormous price tag is affordable to Big Tobacco companies, but small and medium-sized businesses will be crushed, said Gregory Conley, President of the American Vaping Association.
Babaian says she’s more concerned about her customers than her business.
While recognizing e-cigs help known smokers quit, he likes the FDA’s plan to test the products. In 2015 the e-cig industry was estimated to be $3.5 billion. “So up until now, we don’t know all the ingredients”, said Temple.

Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration also took a stance against e-cigarettes by issuing rules to restrict access to children.
