Day has seven wins in the last 10 months

The world number one led the tournament from start to finish and he produced a composed final round of 71 to finish ahead of a chasing pack led by American Kevin Chappell.

It was his seventh win in his past 17 starts on the PGA Tour, took his 2016 earnings to $A7.

Day was looking to join Tiger Woods (twice), Tom Watson and Johnny Miller in recording multiple wire-to-wire wins in a season following his victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. I said it earlier that I’ve never played golf where I’m trying to lag 10-foot putts just to get around the hole. This week, Jason Day was 15-under after two rounds, and he would have needed just two 67s to tie the 22-year old mark, which, given his play the first two days, was doable. From there, the world’s No. 1 player played 3 under with no bogeys over the final 10 holes to restore some semblance of order. He wants to keep moving forward, he wants to keep that number one spot and I think this will really show him: “‘hey, just keep clocking these hours and good things happen'”.

“You can see there’s that calmness inside him, calm confidence, and the way he’s walking around, he’s got that kind of unbeatable look about him”. It was only fitting that the No. 1 player in the world stepped up and delivered one of the best performances of his career.

Jason Day cemented his position as the best player in the world, by winning The Players Championship on Sunday night.

It’s a look and feel that has laid waste to the so-called “Big 3”, a media-manufactured myth created to drum up support for a rivalry among Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy. “I think there was only one cut and one roll instead of…” The 24-year-old switched putters on Saturday to great success, per Will Gray of GolfChannel.com, perhaps spurring the beginning of a massive comeback over the weekend. Day found something that week – a combination of desire and belief – and he has parlayed that into a run Scott referred to as “Tigeresque”. Gathered emotions knocked it in and led to a clutch back nine.

It was Day’s third win of the year and 10th of his career. – There was little doubt all week – at least not from anyone other than Jason Day. “I’ve never been more motivated to try to extend that lead from one to two”, Day said. Asked the most significant shot he hit Sunday, he didn’t hesitate to mention that putt. Another tournament victor Sergio Garcia (2204), who limped to a 54th-place Players finish despite his second-round 66, will also be in the field.

Without being overly disrespectful, the calibre of players closest to Day during round four made matters even easier for him.

Starting out at 14-under with a lead of four, Day made two bogeys on the front nine and watched his buffer reduced to two through the turn, before a birdie at the par-four 10th steadied him. “Once my score started going sideways I started to use it as practice to get my eye in”.
