Derek Connolly To Write Pacific Rim 2

According to the report, there seems to be drafts of the script in motion from del Toro, Zak Penn & Jon Spaihts.

Right now the plot of Pacific Rim 2 is a tightly guarded secret, with the only information being that the follow-up will take place many years after the original.

Initially, “Pacific Rim 2” was set to hit the screens on April 7 next year but it was postponed to August 4, 2017. The only actors expected to reprise their roles were Charlie Day and Burn Gorman, who played the Kaiju-obsessed scientists in the first film, however other familiar faces could return as well.

This is all very exciting news, but I’ll admit that hearing del Toro vacated the director’s chair was disheartening. The latest news regarding the release of the project was that Universal had removed it from their schedule.

Steven DeKnight, the showrunner of the first season of Netflix Daredevil is directing the film, and Del Toro will still be involved as one of the producers but is not directing the sequel to his 2013 film. Del Toro previously collaborated with Travis Beacham on the Pacific Rim screenplay.

Connolly already has previous working on monster flicks and sci-fi, having scribed the excellent Safety Not Guaranteed, and Jurassic World and its forthcoming sequel.
