Following the high-tech cheating scam, a university in Thailand forced to canceled its medical entrance examinations.

“Exam cheating is not a minor offence”.

The university’s move came after the story of the cheaters, who reportedly paid THB50,000 for the hi-tech cheating system, was widely criticized online and caused concern among Thai people.

The gang sent three proxies, who each wore a pair of glasses with a hidden video camera, to sit the exam. They used the spy glasses to film the questions and then immediately left the room after 45 minutes, the minimum time requirement for applicants to finish up and exit the test venue. Although cheating has been a long-time problem in Thailand, this group has taken to another level by using high-tech gadgets, the Associated Press reported. While such loopholes remain open, exam fraud is causing enormous damage, and is potentially deadly in the case of medical students who get away with cheating.

Arthit did not name the tutor, though he said that person received a total of 800,000 baht from the three students in exchange for the service. School officials got the third watch and glasses the next day.

Cheating is so rampant that schools have tried to find creative ways to combat it. Chulalongkorn University installed overhead cameras in some of its examination rooms, while in 2013 Kasetsart University created anti-cheating hats made from stapling two A4 paper sheets to a headband to resemble blinders worn by horses. “I can not say whether they will be allowed to take exams at other universities”, Rangsit administrator Arthit Ourairat was quoted as saying.

“If you can’t take responsibility for your own life, you don’t deserve to become a doctor, which is a career that has to take responsibility for others’ lives”, wrote Namstok Punika, a Facebook user in response to Ourairat’s pictures. University officials confiscated one of the smartwatches Saturday morning and another in the afternoon session.
