It’s happened again: Arsenal fans, players celebrate 21st St Totteringham’s Day

Two points from the last four games is just unacceptable considering how we’ve played for the rest of the season.

“St Totteringham’s Day” is that time of the season when Arsenal fans celebrate that their North London rival Tottenham Hotspur can no longer finish above them in the Premier League.

However, first-half strikes from Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic had them behind at the break. It’s been a fantastic season up until the last four weeks.

“First of all I would like to apologise to our fans”, Pochettino, who signed a new contract extension in the week, said. “I think it is unbelievable and we are very disappointed”. It was a shame and hard to understand. When you go into the pitch you need to give 100 per cent.

There were chants of “Rafa Benitez, we want you to stay” and “Rafa is a Geordie” during the game and after the final whistle.

Erik Lamela halved the deficit and Mitrovic was then sent off for a awful challenge on Kyle Walker but Spurs lost their discipline chasing an equaliser and Newcastle ran away with it.

Wijnaldum finds it hard to take because it “makes it so unusual because I never played before in this kind of situation”, having been used to the top end of the table in Holland’.

Jamie Carragher has claimed Tottenham have had a better season than Arsenal even though Arsene Wenger’s team finished above their rivals in the Premier League table.

“I think after Chelsea, [defeat to] Southampton was an accident but it wasn’t because the mentality we showed was a shame and we need to accept that.” he is quoted by talkSPORT.

City will nearly certainly finish in fourth place – and above rival Manchester United.

Arsenal hoisted themselves above Tottenham and into second place thanks to a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium in their final game of the season.

Leicester City have already been crowned champions earlier which made their encounter with Chelsea a rather tiresome affair that eventually ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Spurs are looking for their third consecutive win at St James’ Park; Harry Kane notched in last season’s 3-1 win there, and is now in pole position for the golden boot with 25 league goals to his name – one ahead of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.

Two stands were evacuated 20 minutes before kick-off and the game was abandoned shortly before the scheduled start.

A controlled explosion was later carried out on a suspect package, described by police as “an incredibly lifelike explosive device”.
