Pall of Nevada fracas hangs over Democratic contest

Sanders emphasized the role the state plays in his long-shot attempt at claiming the Democratic nomination through a brokered convention in July.

“I don’t think they think of the downside of this”, said Senator Dianne Feinstein, who supports Mrs Clinton. But the state party alleged in its letter to the co-chairs of the DNC Rules and By-laws committee, “The explosive situation arose in large part because a portion of the community of Sanders delegates arrived at the Nevada Democratic State Convention believing itself to be a vanguard intent upon sparking a street-fight rather than attending an orderly political party process”.

But many supporters of Sanders are not anxious about any ill effects of the USA senator remaining in the race, arguing that Trump is such a flawed candidate that Clinton will easily dispatch with him if she faces him in the November 8 election.

After winning the last two primaries, Sanders is looking to extend his streak to Kentucky and OR before the Democratic race all but winds down on June 7.

In any case the incident was quickly seized on by the GOP, a spokeswoman saying it illustrated the Democrats have a long road ahead to unify behind a presidential candidate.

About half of United States voters are “scared” that Trump might be elected as the USA president while more than third are afraid about Clinton becoming president. Thirty-five percent reported being “scared” if Clinton were to win the Democratic nomination, while 29 percent would be hopeful, 22 percent would be angry, 16 percent would be excited and 7 percent would be surprised.

Statewide, in the end, Clinton posted a narrow victory, but the caucus was only the beginning. Hillary Clinton lost that primary – a state her husband won by double digits – earlier this month to Sanders.

Clinton and her supporters have avoided calling on Sanders to drop out of the race.

The Nevada convention was shut down by security Saturday night after Sanders supporters shouted down speakers and at one point threw chairs in protest. “I was really, really heartbroken”. The Clinton campaign turned out 33 more supporters to the convention than the Sanders campaign, enough to cement a 20-15 edge among Nevada delegates heading to Philadelphia.

In the end, the convention running three hours late, hotel security and local law enforcement chose to shut things down.

Tick Segerblom, a Nevada state senator and Sanders backer, said in an interview Monday that he didn’t think the state party did anything improper but that it needed to reach out to the Sanders’ supporters. But Sanders says it’s possible they’ll reconsider if today’s results swing overwhelmingly in his favor.

“We found out she was coming, and you don’t say no, but how do you prepare?”
