One that was hiding at a Lowe’s garden center in North Carolina levied a surprise attack on one of the store’s customers late Monday afternoon, reports WXIN. Officials said the 4.5 foot copperhead was in the gardening department.

The employee was alert and conscious when firefighters arrived.

Buy a tree, get a snake?

The story and headline have been changed to show that the fire department now says it was a customer, not an employee, who was bitten.

The East Lincoln Fire Department posted a picture on Facebook of the snake inside of a bag.
