I was Leicester’s first choice before Ranieri – Hiddink

Claudio Ranieri says he will continue to push his Leicester side to more success in the future after their incredible Premier League title triumph.

Mr Ranieri said his emotions were at “the maximum level” after Leicester were crowned Barclays Premier League champions. Inside me there are two people.

Leicester City’s rise from narrowly avoiding relegation last season to defying odds of 5,000/1 and winning this season’s English Premier League football title is some story.

When Leicester won the Championship in 2014, Selby missed the team’s bus parade through the city because he was beating Ronnie O’Sullivan to become world champion for the first time.

It has been a week of celebration for the Foxes, since Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea confirmed the destination of the title.

Their final match of the season will be away at Ranieri’s former employers, and incumbent champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Foxes have the best home record in the division and are now unbeaten in 14 at the King Power.

Ranieri’s argument, though, is other clubs in the Premier League still have more money to spend on players.

“I’m very, very confident [they will stay]”, he said. “Leicester in the long-term will go in a very high position”.

But Ranieri accepts it will be carnival time in and around the ground as the Foxes celebrate their first top flight title win in their 132-year history.

Everton, meanwhile, ended a seven-game run without a league win with a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth last weekend with defender Leighton Baines stealing the victor.

“I knew going out there that the game was kicking off, but I tried not to think about it too much because I didn’t want it to distract from what I had to do”. “In Thailand, the first team is Leicester. I’ve received letters from Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil – everywhere (saying) ‘Leicester, Leicester, what a legend”.
