In a freakish twist after days of both the father and son on the run from police, Flint Harrison surrendered because he said he grew concerned about the behavior of his armed son and helped police track the 22-year-old to their remote hideout.

The men face various charges stemming from the Tuesday attack in Centerville, Utah, including aggravated kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A five-day manhunt for a father and son accused of tying up a woman and her four teenage daughters in a Utah basement ended this weekend near a makeshift campsite at the base of rugged Wyoming mountains.

Also at the hearing was Dereck’s mother, 45-year-old Maryann Delrymply Harrison.

Searchers in Wyoming have combed the backwoods for his Utah Transit Authority pickup truck, and they are planning to use sonar to search a lake near the campsite on Wednesday.

Steenblik emphasized that the only connection at this point is that the vehicle went missing from the Salt Lake City area around the same time frame that the Harrisons were in the same vicinity, so UTA Police reached out to Sublette County Sheriff’s Office and asked if it would be helpful to share that ATL.

Police said they had planned the kidnappings as they believed the mother had reported their drug use to police.

A police spokesperson said the pair were in court for an extradition hearing on Monday but were told they were not allowed to leave the state of OH – where the alleged offences happened.

The Harrisons falsely suspected the mother had reported them to authorities, said police Lt. Von Steenblik of Centerville, Utah, about 14 miles north of Salt Lake City.

While the mother was tied up, police say the suspects began beating her with the bat. Teams had been searching for the man after his father; Flint Wayne Harrison turned himself in early Saturday morning.

The younger Harrison was a close friend of the family, Steenblik said. That same day, the woman and her kids were able to escape.

From a search helicopter, Flint Harrison pointed police to their remote camp, but the younger Harrison was already gone.

The girls broke free from their restraints, and ran out of the house, screaming for help.

As of 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the Half Moon Lake campground had been evacuated by law enforcement and nearby homes and buildings were also cleared.

The Harrison men left the home before officers arrived Tuesday.

Police had said the younger Harrison was heavily armed with rifles and knives, but he was unarmed when authorities arrested him, the lieutenant said. She was arrested after Utah authorities accused her of breaking the terms of her parole by leaving the state for Wyoming to seek information about her son, the release said.
