“Independents are the largest voting population in the U.S. Gallup reports that independents are 42 percent of the voting population, while Democrats are only 29 percent and Republicans are only 26 percent”, he explained. Now shifting toward the general election, Trump has hired GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio, who confirmed the move Tuesday on Twitter.

Sasse said he has not been actively seeking a third candidate after calling for a presidential alternative – “I posted two open letters on Facebook” – and he believes it’s probably not possible now for an alternative Republican candidate to mount a successful challenge to Trump at the GOP national convention. Though the Democratic National Committee has building fund of its own, Clinton did not include that in her joint fundraising agreement.

Financial statements of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton showed that she earned almost $7 million a year ago through sales of her latest book as well as paid speeches. The Real Clear Politics average of polls has the former secretary of state up over Trump just under 6 points, but the trend has shown the race tightening, which the NBC/Survey Monkey poll further confirmed.

The Sanders campaign was not immediately saying whether it would challenge the results. While both men praised each other after the two-hour-plus huddle, Ryan continued to withhold a formal endorsement even though all other candidates have dropped out.
