Barcelona pipped bitter rivals Real Madrid to the La Liga title thanks to a Luis Suarez hat-trick at Granada.

Barca began the season aiming to become the first team to win consecutive trebles but those ambitions were halted by elimination from the Champions League quarter-finals by Atletico Madrid.
Suarez’s total of 40 is more than anybody has scored in a La Liga season other than Messi and Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo got Real off to the flawless start, which if Barcelona were to show any nerves wouldn’t have helped, when he finished off a cross from Gareth Bale inside 10-minutes.
It was a bittersweet day for Ronaldo, who has now scored 50 goals in each of the last six seasons, but, astonishingly, finishes well behind Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, who has found the net 59 times this season.
While Godin said it was hard to see Atleti come up just short, he was relieved that Barca managed to lift the trophy over their Madrid rivals.

Having suffered three consecutive league defeats for the first time in 13 years, Barca bounced back in stunning fashion with a demolition of Deportivo inspired by four goals and three assists from Suarez.
Barca looked set to wrap the title up weeks ago during a 39-game unbeaten run stretching from October to April that saw them lead Atletico and Real by nine and 12 points respectively.
“We played very well over the course of the season”. Athletic Bilbao and Celta Vigo won the European spots, while Sevilla are in seventh-place, but as they’re both Copa del Rey and the Europa League finalists it’s a question what European competition will they participate in the next season.
Barca faced a huge test just three games into the defence of their title with a visit to Champions League finalists Atletico.

Luis Suarez stepped up to lead Barcelona the way in the second half of the season, winning the Pichichi Trophy in the process, and Neymar has nothing but praise for his team-mate. “It seems as if we knew how to play the game and I thought we played well”.
