Geoff Johns Will Reportedly Oversee DC Movies After Batman v Superman Disappointment

Warner Bros. has reportedly appointed exec Jon Berg and DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns in charge of the DC Films division, after “Batman v Superman” failed to meet the studio’s financial and critical expectations. Warner Bros are overtly trying to unify the creative heads behind the DC universe, emulating the successful Marvel Cinematic Universe that is presided over by Kevin Feige.

“Over a dozen films, adaptations and projects have been confirmed to be ‘in development, ‘ with no additional word on exactly which are actually planned for WB’s slate”. Appreciating that some people care for the film very much, the fundamental problem Warner Bros is facing is that many didn’t, and that a movie that was expected to gross over $1bn has fallen some way short of that. The hope is that by bringing in these two, John, who is familiar with the comics, and Berg, who has a strong background as a film producer, that the DCEU can stand alongside its competitors over at Marvel Studios. He also made a name for himself in the TV world having spearheaded Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl alongside showrunner Greg Berlanti. And current estimates suggest that that film will have done at least $1.2bn by the time its box office run is gone. He has recently been tasked as the architect behind DC’s upcoming Rebirth storyline as well, which will see the reboot of every major DC comic book title. They’ll be followed by The Flash, still set for March 16, 2018 despite the exit of director Seth Grahame-Smith, the James Wan-directed Aquaman July 27 of that year.

But the reorganization officially designates the two executives with leadership roles related to the upcoming Warner Bros. superhero films.
