The Northeast zonal coordinator of the agency, Mohammed Kanar who spoke to our correspondent on phone said six persons were killed in the early morning explosion at the Gamboru market in Maiduguri. I lost my balance due to the impact of the reverberating blast; but thank God I was not too close. “On reaching the Gambouru Customs area market, we saw five dismembered bodies with no hands or legs, while two others, including a motorists in a Honda auto, was also killed by the blast”, said the CJTF member in a telephone interview yesterday in Maiduguri.
A police bomb expert said the bomber was a man, not a woman as had been originally described by witnesses.
“There had been a suicide attack on Gamboru market this morning”.
He said he helped collect seven bodies.
At least 10 people are said to have died in a suicide bombing which hit a market in Maiduguri today, July 31, 2015. It lies where the borders of Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria converge.
Soldiers rescued 71 Boko Haram captives, mostly girls and women, in battles that killed many militants and destroyed their camps in three villages near Maiduguri.
The six-year-old uprising has killed 20,000 people and driven almost two million from their homes.
“Eight other people were injured and are now receiving treatment in a hospital”, Babakura Kolo, a vigilante in the northeastern town said.

No group has formally claimed responsibility but Boko Haram Islamists are suspected to be behind the bombing.
