Daniel Norris: Starting For Tigers Sunday

If the Yankees get desperate at the final hour, a trade for Shields could happen.

Michael Pineda was scratched from his scheduled start in Texas and placed on the disabled list because of a right flexor forearm muscle strain.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly wanted to add left-hander David Price before Friday at 4 p.m. ET, and probably still do now even though the non-waiver trade deadline has passed.

It had been unclear whether the Tigers would be sellers before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline, but the team reportedly made the decision to sell Wednesday. He’s the guy I’d want in a 1-game playoff. “We’re perfectly aligned in that and everything we’re doing is working towards that”.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has repeatedly said that the team won’t be trading for any high-end talent approaching the deadline, but one would have to imagine that if the Tigers dangle Price for a reasonable return, New York may pounce.

So, with Hamels off the market and Johnny Cueto a Royal, the spotlight is squarely on the Tigers and David Price.

He has pitched especially well of late, winning his past four starts while allowing just two runs over 30 innings for a 0.60 ERA.

He complained about soreness near his elbow after a bullpen on Tuesday.

Todd Redmond will start in Boyd’s place tonight against Syracuse.

“I get that”, Friedman said. I wouldn’t use him unless he proves that he can pitch in the majors first.

The injury is similar to the one that caused closer Andrew Miller to miss a month earlier this season.

Pineda will take seven to 10 days off before throwing a baseball again.

Did we give up too much?

The Blue Jays, Cubs and Yankees still remain possible landing spots for Price, but it’s unlikely these clubs surrender top prospects for a rental who might not re-sign with them in the offseason.

The Astros are an interesting potential addition to the Price bidding, but it sounds like, based on the reports we’re seeing, most members of the media expect the Dodgers to pony up big and be the eventual sweepstakes winners.

Question is, will the Yankees make a move for one of them? The truth is that most projection systems, taking into account prior-year performances and the current season, expect Price to be worth about one win more than Mike Bolsinger from this point forward.

In the short term, Giants fans can breathe a sigh of relief that neither Hamels nor Price will join Kershaw and Greinke in a Dodgers rotation that would ve been as formidable as any since 1966, when they had three future Hall of Famers in Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale and Don Sutton.
