Delays drag on amid repairs to train tracks damaged by fire
“Hudson, New Haven and Harlem Line Service from Grand Central Terminal to 125th Street Station is temporarily suspended until further notice due to a fire at 118th Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan”, the city’s Office of Emergency Management said in an alert.

The fire that broke out underneath the elevated Metro-North tracks in Manhattan Tuesday night started with spilled gasoline, according to officials, but there was plenty of fuel to feed the flames after the first spark, the I-Team has learned.
Metro-North will operate on a Saturday schedule until Friday morning on all three lines. If those are successful, trains will be allowed at reduced speeds over the tracks that were out of service Wednesday.
The MTA also warned, “Customers should anticipate delays and extremely crowded conditions, and are encouraged to consider working from home or finding alternative transportation”.
Officials say limited train service was restored on Metro-North lines into and out of Grand Central Station hours after the fire broke out beneath the elevated train tracks.
Most seemed to take the inconvenience in stride.
NEW YORK (AP) – Thousands of rail passengers will have to deal with another day of slow commutes as crews fix elevated train tracks in New York City that were damaged by a fire. It said crews were installing six temporary steel columns at the site.
It’s normally been on time or I get on the express train. Workers brought out heavy machinery to replace damaged beams that support the train overpass, beams compromised by the intense heat of the fire.
A third track will be back in service in time for Thursday’s morning rush hour while repairs continue in order to allow the remaining track to go back into service.
The senator said he was relieved to hear no one was killed or seriously hurt in the fire but he said the blaze was “the last thing” Metro-North needed after collisions and disasters on its tracks in recent years.

But as he waited to board a train at Grand Central Terminal Wednesday evening, Georgescu said the evening rush could pass for a regular day.
