The crisis erupted from the Supreme Court’s directive to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to conduct a single common entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country through NEET.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi appealed to the students to appear for the NEET to be held on July 24 and also urged them not to be confused by the recent development and go ahead with their preparations for the NEET.
The state government has also approached the Supreme Court against Monday’s verdict which said only National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) provides for conducting such test for admission to these courses.
“As has been already noted in the judgment by the Supreme Court only the state subjects are eligible for admissions to the medical colleges here under the NEET”.
Meanwhile, the parents of medical aspirants who appeared for GUJCET, held protests outside several examination centres across the state and raised slogans against the NEET.
When the Bench asked CBSE if it was possible to have question papers prepared in vernacular languages, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Pinky Anand assured that efforts will be made but failed to give any assurance. “We have left it to you”, the bench said. Given there could be a criticism of violation of the federal principle, there was the expectation that the apex court would allow states to have their own entrance exams for some seats. “In view of the above, it is also clarified that only NEET would enable students to get admission to MBBS or BDS studies”, it had said. “My daughter kept on asking me why are we appearing for an examination which has no value as of today”, said Ms Anandani.
Kumar told the court that the language aspect of NEET was not addressed in the order passed by the court on Monday.

According to the schedule, the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) scheduled for May 1 was treated as the first round of the NEET.
