Demi Lovato sat down to talk with Refinery 29 and, as usual, was very open about her past struggles with mental illness, drug use, self-abuse and eating disorders.

Lovato says an ideal night for her is a cozy evening at home with her pup and boyfriend of six years, Wilmer Valderrama.
As for the roman numeral three on her left wrist, Lovato explained it is “Nascar-inspired”.
In addition to that, here are 10 more revelations the “Confident” singer made in the interview. “I had to learn the hard way that I can’t do parties anymore”, she recalled.
When she was younger and trapped in the lies of substance abuse, Lovato even told her parents that she pays the bills so she can’t be grounded at any cost. And I used that as an excuse to do whatever I wanted. “I was a nightmare to work with”. “There are women that I don’t get along with, and that’s fine”, she said.
‘Some people can go out and not be triggered, but that’s not the case for me, ‘ Lovato shrugged. I got to a point where I was like, Oh my god, it does not f-cking matter.
“It’s nobody’s business but ours, and when it happens, it happens”, she says. The two bonded over racing, so after he passed away in 2013, she opted for race vehicle driver Dale Earnhardt’s number. I get shade and I don’t give a [expletive] because someone has to be the one to take it.
And she’s standing by her words.
Speaking out about her and Taylor’s past tension in a new interview with Refinery29, Demi defended her decision to put Swift on blast over the way she handled Kesha’s recent legal battle with Sony and producer Dr Luke, who Kesha claimed sexually assaulted her. “My thing is, don’t brand yourself a feminist if you don’t do the work”, she said. “I have an enormous amount of respect for women like Lena Dunham. or Beyonce, who make wonderful political statements through their work”, she said. “I’m not going to stop saying what I believe in”. Maybe I got it from growing up in Texas, but I never took (expletive) from anybody.
On feeling “underestimated”: The singer confesses some people will always only see her as a former child star, but that that is ok. Now I know how to do it without pushing people away.
