Clinton discloses millions in book royalties, speaking fees

So much for the all the pundits and experts who said Donald Trump wouldn’t stand a chance in the general election.

And according to a statement released by Trump on Tuesday, his net worth – which he’s often asserted is $10 billion – is now more than that. “They don’t know what they’re talking about”, Trump told CNN last July in response to that estimate. “It’s not our obligation to release it”, he said. IRS officials have said there’s no reason taxpayers can’t make their returns public, even during audits.

Clinton’s team took a swing at Trump in releasing her 11-page form, saying that despite the Republican’s “boasting” the filing was “no breakthrough for transparency” but rather a “legal requirement” for presidential candidates.

Trump’s personal financial disclosure is not a release of tax returns.

Crippled America“, his campaign book published a year ago, generated between $1 million and $5 million in income. He also reports nine other liabilities on which he owes anywhere between $5 million and $25 million each. Bill Clinton also has made more than $5.6 million in an honorary role for the GEMS foundation. The Democratic candidate maintained a 46-42 percent lead over the billionaire, though that advantage was smaller than Sanders’ 14-point lead last month.

The five speeches disclosed in Clinton’s latest documents include the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce paying her $150,000 for a talk in January 2015, following two other speeches in Canada that also were co-sponsored by the bank.

Trump said he was pleased to have worked out the partnership with the RNC, which is another sign he’s been at least moderately successful in working to unify the GOP for the November general election.

The Biggest Question: Will Big Donors Give To Trump?

Trump plans to appoint a special assistant who would report to him on territorial affairs as well as “perform holistic review of all federal regulations affecting the territories”, according to the GOP’s press release announcing the delegation’s support for Trump.

On the Democratic side, Tuesday’s primary election acts as more of a poll – it doesn’t directly affect the presidential contest. The campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday. Candidates can ask for an extension for filing those documents, but are eventually required to do so.

In response to the exchange, Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement: “Trump is doing what he does best, attacking when he feels wounded and dragging the American people through the mud for his own gain”.
