Roberto Martinez’s sacking means Everton go into the summer in search for a new manager to work alongside billionaire investor Farhad Moshiri.

When David Moyes departed the Toffees for the chance to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, Martinez got the call-up from former club Wigan. A good man has lost his job and that’s always hard.
“I think the Evertonians will turn out in force”.
“The chairman phoned me and asked me to come in”.
“It was the proudest moment of my life yesterday when I got the call”, he said.
“Everybody knows I have one year left on my contract and we will sit together and analyse this season and we will talk about the future and that is what the news is today”, the former Netherlands worldwide added.
“My relationship with Roberto is outstanding”.
“It’s one of the top jobs in the world”, he said.
“I saw Roberto (on Friday morning) and we had a big hug. He’s a terrific guy”.
Frank de Boer is the early favourite to be appointed as the Merseyside outfit’s new boss, having stepped down from his position as Ajax manager.
“(I can tell you) nothing, because I am the manager of Southampton. I’m sure they’ll get behind us. We’ve a lot of good things going on and my job certainly isn’t finished.
Everton has particularly struggled at home this campaign with the club winning only five league matches on its own turf – its worst return in Premier League history.
Everton, who sit in 12th place, head into the Norwich clash on the back of claiming just one win from their last 10 Premier League fixtures.
Unsworth is happy to have Royle, under whom he won the 1995 FA Cup, alongside him, joking: ” It’s nice that he’s working for me now.
He also added “I have never seen a player with the incredible professionalism, standards and so level-headed as Gareth Barry. If Frank is on the shortlist, I don’t know”. We want the performance but we want a win as well.
