Texas man accidentally shoots himself after taking aim at armadillo

Authorities in Texas said a wounded man told them his bullet bounced off the animal’s armored hide and hit him in the head.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the man’s home in Marietta, Texas, about 3 a.m. when the incident was called in. Barker said the man told police the bullet from his. Reports do not indicate the condition of the armadillo that was shot.

Officials in Cass County, Texas, say the man suffered a graze wound to the head when he fired at an armadillo and the bullet ricocheted off the mammal’s rigid protective covering and struck him.

Deputies are calling the incident an “accidental shooting”. He then shot the armadillo three times.

“We didn’t find the armadillo”, the Sherrif Rowe said.

With their leathery skin, it is not surprising that, as Wikipedia notes, the word armadillo means “little armoured one” in Spanish.

A local television station reported that it bounced off the armadillo, hit a fence, went through the 74-year-old’s back door and through the back of the chair she was sitting in.

In the previous incident, the old lady got away with a minor injury, but unfortunately, the armadillo didn’t make it.
