Taiwan’s next presidential election has been scheduled for January 2016.
On Thursday, students gathered outside the Ministry of Education building to demand officials drop charges relating to last week’s break-in.
Beijing regards Taiwan as a renegade province and has not dominated out using drive to convey the island beneath its management.
Police said Lin committed suicide in his New Taipei City home this morning.
They demanded a straight “Yes” or “No” answer on whether he would retract the curriculum before drowning him out with chants of “Step down!” as he retreated inside.
They took over a square outside the ministry building, but were unable to get any further as police with riot shields guarded the doorway. “Will you step down and retract the revision?” The group vowed to remain until morning.
Protesters much earlier toasted pics of Wu in association with items of dollars, a Chinese respect custom made, simply because they hesitated down below the careful off of a large number of monitor behind blocks.
The 20-year-old had been charged with breaking into the education ministry last week.
Lin’s mother asked for other protesters not to follow his example.
“I hope all the children involved with the curriculum discussion will express their opinion in an appropriate channel. I don’t want to see another incident happening like Kuan-hua”, she said.
Lin Yu-hua, the spokesperson for the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) (or the Chinese Nationalist Party), said it has been impossible to organize talks with the protesters over the proposed textbook changes because “of obfuscation and intervention by certain political forces”.
“We really regret this incident and that we couldn’t stop this from happening”, he said. “It has something to do with the history and even the national identity (of Taiwan)”.
The dispute highlights the deep mistrust between the two sides despite the establishment of the best ever trade ties since Taiwan’s President Massachusetts Ying-jeou took office in 2008.
The student protests come at a time when tensions are running high over fears that China is exerting greater influence over Taiwan.
The 50-year period of Japanese rule is also referred to as an era when “Japan occupied” the island, replacing the previous reference to “Japan governing” the island.
