Memon was convicted for for the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts for aiding, abetting and facilitating terrorists.

Mohammed Farooq Ghosi, the Vice President of SP’s Maharashtra unit has written a letter to party’s national chief Mulayam Singh Yadav putting forth his request that Raheen must be given a parliament seat as she has suffered a lot.

“You (Mulayam Singh Yadav) are our leader and have always supported the needy and helpless people”.

When asked if he had approached the Memon family and is Raheen willing to take up the offer if the party decides to send her to the Upper House, Ghosi chose not to reply.

He claimed that Ghoshi had not consulted the state party leadership on the matter before publishing his letter. “We should try to give voice to such people by making Raheen a Member of Parliament”, added Ghosi.

In the letter, Ghosi has mentioned that he finds Raheen helpless and there are several people in the country who are in the similar situation.

State party president Abu Asim Azmi, however, distanced himself from the matter, saying that an explanation will be sought from Ghosi on the content of his letter.

The remarks came just two days after 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon was hanged at Nagpur Central Jail.
