Tottenham’s Harry Kane: It would be a blow to finish below Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of winning the league title came to an unsightly end at Stamford Bridge last Monday, when Mauricio Pochettino’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by Chelsea, thereby handing the trophy to Leicester City.

Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Southampton on Sunday, while Arsenal moved within two points of their rivals following a 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

Spurs could have all but secured second place with a victory over Southampton but fell short in their final game at home with a 2-1 defeat.

Davis pegged them back with a simple finish that Hugo Lloris should have done better with, while Shane Long missed an early second-half chance to put the visitors ahead.

Davis exchanged passes with Tadic on the edge of the Tottenham penalty area, jinked away from one defender and found the bottom corner with a precise finish. “It was not something we focused on at the start of the season but now we are here it would be good, it would be good for the fans”. I want to win the league and be on the top. We know what it means to the fans.

“It has been a long season”, Kane said. We’re disappointed we couldn’t send them home happy but there’s still one more game to do that and we’ll try our hardest. But defeat means they may yet finish behind their north London neighbours after missing out on the ultimate prize. “We need to spend our energy to try and win games like today”.

Arsenal are now two points behind Spurs and Wilshere reckons his team have momentum going into the weekend fixtures.

“We had a good reaction in the game, some good crosses, we made it really risky”.

But Pochettino is determined not to obsess about local bragging rights and has urged all at Tottenham to think in the same way, with his priority to finish ahead of every team, not just the Gunners. “I think they will do it. I think they will just scrape over”.

We at Football Fancast are firm believers that there are lessons to be learned from every match, whether it’s a relegation playoff in the German third tier or the World Cup final. In the last few weeks or months, people maybe don’t behave like professionals and we need to be careful. After 2-1 we were a little bit lucky. “If they can add one or two more players, they will again be competing next year”.

Pochettino can do something special with Tottenham, says Fonte
