‘Rocket League’ news: Game reaches five million downloads milestone

Its poorly-received predecessor, first released in 2009, features the same cars found in “Rocket League”.

The full contents include two new Battle-Cars, “the over-the-top American muscle vehicle Dominus, and the souped-up Japanese street racer Takumi”. (You can hear a bit of it in the trailer above.).

According to the studio, the figure doubles the lifetime downloads of Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars – Rocket League’s predecessor. The game, which was made by a small in-house team at Psyonix, has gone on to notch over 5 million downloads across PlayStation 4 and PC.

On Monday we reported that Rocket League, the wacky car/soccer game, is the top-selling title on Steam right now.

However, “Rocket League” has become very popular in just a short time since its release. Quick Chat has also been expanded and now has cross platform support for PC and PS4.

Psyonix also pledges to bring updated goal explosions and demolitions, as well as a brand new song called “Firework” from electronic group Hollywood Principle.

That seems like a huge number of people playing a futuristic fantasy sports game that replaces soccer boots with trucks, but one has to assume that it includes the people who’ve downloaded the game using their PlayStation Plus subscriptions. The long-awaited “Spectator Mode” will be in there too, allowing viewers to watch live games in real-time from any angle in the arena.
