Bill to raise stripper age passes, after outrage over joke
A state representative in Louisiana who submitted an amendment mandating that strippers be younger than 29 and thinner than 161 pounds later said he was just joking about over-regulation.

By Thursday, the “joke amendment” drew national attention, widespread scorn on social media and commentary across the Louisiana Capitol.
“Well, I’ll pull it, Ms. Landry”, Havard said promptly. But he stopped short of an apology, saying, “I don’t know if I’ll ever apologize for being politically correct”. “I figured it would probably offend somebody, but it’s America”. Havard was not present during the House’s Thursday afternoon session.
But when a reporter challenged Havard that it was unlikely that many male strippers would weigh fewer than 160 pounds, Havard stood firm.
He had been poking fun at a bill that’d ban strippers from being under 21.
This is pure nanny-state garbage, and naturally in a supposedly conservative Republican legislature made up of politicians who took great pains to tout their credentials as advocates of smaller, less intrusive government there isn’t a single legislator either in the House or Senate with the sand to stand up and vote against it.
It didn’t persuade her colleagues to pass the equal pay measure, which was rejected by the House labor committee. She described him as a friend and a “really good guy”. We’ll call it the Havard Amendment.
“It really is a teaching moment for all of us, not just Kenny. I thought it was inappropriate”, she said.
“If it is happening, it’s a frightful thing and we should all sit down and talk about it”, Havard said.
“Trafficking is a very, very heartbreaking issue, but we seem to care more if the victim is a girl and in a sexual situation rather than working 18 hours a day cleaning someone’s house and not being able to leave”, Kostner said.
“I’ve got to say, looking out over this body, I’ve never been so repulsed to be a part of it”, Stokes said.

Havard said he plans to visit with female legislators, but stressed that he didn’t understand why there was so much interest nationally in his amendment. Ronnie Johns (R), previously told The Advocate.
