Bradley took care of extending his hitting streak in his first at-bat when he blasted a homer, then later reached base two more times – once with a single, and once, interestingly, with an intentional walk. The victory gave the Royals their first series win since taking two of three from Baltimore at home on April 22-24, and Sunday’s victory was their sixth in the last 19 outings. It turned out to be about 12 hours. Greinke went eight innings and struck out seven and Jake Lamb was the hero on offense for the second night in a row, going deep for a two-run shot off Michael Pineda, whose winless streak had now stretched to seven games.

After posting a 6.75 ERA through his first seven starts, the last two have been a welcome sight for the Red Sox.

THAT…is Royals baseball. At least, the brand they’ve played over the past couple of seasons.

Yordano Ventura, scheduled to start Monday for the Royals, will start Tuesday’s game and Ian Kennedy and Edinson Volquez will start Wednesday’s games.

Luke Hochevar got the final out of the sixth and worked a ideal seventh, and Salvador Perez threw out Xander Bogaerts trying to steal second to wipe out the potential tying run in the eighth. Eric Hosmer belted a two-run homer and Lorenzo Cain added a sacrifice fly as the Royals beat Boston 3-2. “We did it”, said Volquez, who allowed four runs, seven hits and four walks in six innings. “Everyone is pulling for each other”, designated hitter Kendrys Morales told MLB’s official website following his game-ending home run. “This isn’t something we feel we’re back to ground zero”, Farrell said.

Kansas City splits a weekday doubleheader with Boston at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Boston dropped the first game 3-2 after an excellent, complete game pitching effort by Steven Wright.

Meanwhile, the Royals (20-19) are starting to heat up after a prolonged cold spell. Can the reigning World Series champions really apply the clamps today? 500 with their third straight win and fourth in five games. There aren’t going to be many – if any – in-season trade options the Sox can pounce on to upgrade their starting five, either, so they just might have to figure it out with the arms they have. Were we seeing the real Rick Porcello or did we just see a good month from a highly paid pitcher?
