Iran, France talk of ‘new era’ in ties

Araghchi effectively said that under the deal, Iran will import and export weapons anytime, anywhere. They want to be absolutely sure that they are protected from Iran, which is a much bigger country than all of the Gulf states put together.

“They consider signing the deal a betrayal [but] the UAE has taken a positive attitude for now”.

Total had been involved in the development of Iran’s giant South Pars gas field, which holds about half of Iran’s gas reserves, but the project had been overshadowed by haggling over contract terms.

If Iran is truly to win over its neighbors, it will need to undertake monumental efforts both on its own and with others in the region, in order to put out the flames it has started all over the Middle East-most recently in Yemen. There’s a sanction on conventional weapons.

In a later interview with France 2 Television, Fabius confirmed that “around a hundred” French business leaders would be making a trip to Iran in September.

The third positive impact of the deal for Pakistan is that it can team up with Iran and Afghanistan to fight the common danger of the Islamic State (IS) in the region.

At the same time, Iran will remain the sole stable and powerful option for future cooperation with the West. Of course, Iran will change from a maximal foe to a regional ally for the Western powers during the coming decade. In fact, the written results are a price or a guarantee for the realization of these historical, though unwritten, outcomes of the nuclear deal.

“It’s part of the grand strategy of countering Iranian influence”. The Chabahar port will remove Indian dependence on Pakistan to open up trade and energy links with Afghanistan and Central Asian states.

And that’s not the only reason why Iran will now be under the world’s microscope. Another objective of developing the Chabahar port is to outflank Pakistan’s Gwadar Port built with Chinese assistance.

This is understandable and will benefit the Iranian economy, which has suffered heavily because of the sanctions – without which Iran would not have agreed to the JCPOA. Lawmakers, under a law passed earlier this year, will be able to vote to approve or disapprove of the deal, or take no action. And finally more about the countries in the Middle East that are referred to as “allies”.

Iran has repeatedly denied interfering in the internal matters of its neighbours, saying such claims are aimed at preventing cooperation between Iran and the region.

The Times said the Arab Gulf nations spend a staggering 130 billion dollars annually on defence while Iran’s annual military budget is about 15 billion dollars.

For all practical intent and purposes, Pakistan has its plate full on the domestic front, the hostile border situation with India and the ongoing reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

Saudi Arabia and other Sunni-ruled Arab states lining the Persian Gulf harbor deep suspicions about Iran’s intentions in the region.

Carter is traveling through the Middle East this week trying to demonstrate the U.S. commitment to traditional allies, including Israel and Saudi Arabia. It began in Lebanon, and now we have seen it spread to other countries such as Iraq.

There are significant differences between member states on the level of engagement with Iran. Israel could not control the outcome of the talks over nuclear deal. From a political angle, provision of these conditions would need balanced and overarching observance of all articles of the Constitutions including those articles that are related to the people’s rights.
