>Srinagar, August 01 (Scoop News)-Accusing Opposition National Conference of playing with sentiments of people of J&K, PDP General Secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir said that NC was politicizing the issue of mortal remains of Afzal Guru when it has lost the moral standing to speak on the issue long back as the party chose power to sensitivities of the people.
PDP Chief Spokesperson Mehboob Beig said that government of India should return the mortal remains of the Guru on “humanitarian” basis. NC chief spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said. I think you have to understand this party is losing ground completely in Kashmir and whole of the state and they are frustrated. “It will be a good gesture by the union government if they take this step”.
“NC working president (and former chief minister) Omar Abdullah had written to the then Prime Minister of India demanding the return of Guru’s mortal remains and the party has repeatedly raised this demand even on the floor of the Legislative Assembly”, he said.
According to GNS correspondent, while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Pulwama district, PDP youth leader and Political Analyst to CM Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, said: “They (NC) hanged Afzal guru for their political survival and today they are doing politics on his mortal remains for their political survival again”.
“It is not too late”.
At that time, separatist and State parties were hell-bent on their demand that body should be returned to Afzal’s family. In-fact, the congress legislators had termed the execution as a mistake by the central government.
