Soldiers working with a civilian vigilante group rescued Amina on Tuesday near Damboa, south of Maiduguri.

The President said although nothing could be done to reverse the horrors of her past, the Federal Government would do everything possible to ensure that the rest of her life take a completely different course. His wife claimed it was a ruse to make her husband look bad.

Ali Gwoza and Apagu Chibok are some of the vigilante members, who identified her.

The rescued Chibok school girl, Amina Ali, was on Wednesday handed over to Borno State Governor, Kashim Shetima, in Government house, Maiduguri.

And she reportedly has been reunited with her family already. Mass kidnappings of women and children have played a big part in its strategy, and the terror group has been suspected of forcing some of the kidnapped Chibok girls to carry out suicide bombings.

Earlier this week, a Nigerian Army-backed volunteer group that is fighting the terrorist group found Nkeki, now 19, wandering in the Sambisa Forest, located in northeastern Nigeria near the border with Cameroon.

The Bring Back Our Girls global social media campaign, launched immediately after the kidnap, drew widespread support from public figures including Michelle Obama, however none of the girls has ever been found until now. The army says she is called Falmata Mbalala.

The Chibok schoolgirls, many of whom are Christian, had previously not been seen since May 2014, when Boko Haram released a video of about 130 of them gathered together reciting the Koran.

Buhari’s statement said medical personnel and trauma experts had examined Ali on Wednesday for five hours.

Authorities now hope Nkek will be able to furnish vital information that will lead to the rescues of the other missing girls.

The military released a photograph of the girl, who was seated, clad in a Muslim headscarf and cradling a baby wrapped in a cloth while holding a plate of food.

The Nigerian army has made progress in the fight against Boko Haram in the past year, retaking most of the areas previously under Boko Haram control.

The Sambisa Forest has always been known to contain Boko Haram camps. Nevertheless Amina’s discovery has brought hope to the remaining parents: “This means they are still alive”, said Yakubu Nkeke, from a local parents’ group.

A total of 276 girls were abducted from Chibok in 2014
