A Delta airplane preparing to land at JFK Airport Friday had a close call with a drone.

Amid an alarming number of drone incidents, the FAA has launched a campaign warning hobbyists and other unmanned aerial vehicle operators to stay away from airports.

The pilot said the unmanned aircraft was about 100 feet under the right wing of the plane.

Federal Aviation Administration says it is investigating the incident. In the audio recording, the cockpit says that the drone passed just below the planes nose when the jet was flying at an altitude of about 800 to 900 feet.
