The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to check their freezer after yet another massive frozen food recall.
According to an Associated Press report, the recalls account for more than 400 products sold under more than 40 brands at stores like Costco, Trader Joe’s, Target and Safeway. Then, on May 2, it expanded that recall to include all frozen vegetable and fruit products that had been processed at its Pasco, Washington, facility since May 2014.
“In the next couple of weeks they’ll start sterilizing the plant”, CRF Frozen Foods spokesman Gene Grabowski told ABC News Friday.
Listeria monocytogenes are organisms which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Listeria infections can also cause miscarriage and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The items were sold in all 50 states and include approximately 358 products sold under 42 separate brands. Majority are frozen vegetable products or contain ingredients that were part of the CRF Frozen Foods recall.
In this outbreak, of those eight who were sick, six were in California. Wise said that the levels of listeria contamination might not be high or may be uneven in the packaged vegetables.
FDA spokeswoman Lauren Sucher said it’s important to follow label directions for cooking frozen foods.

The CFIA’s Jarbeau says if consumers have recalled products in their home, the recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion or loss of balance.
