Arnold Gjergjaj: The shelf-stacker who is David Haye’s next opponent
The current set-up is created to let him get back into training within 2-3 weeks of a fight, and victory over Swiss opponent Gjergjaj – who goes into the bout 29-0 with 21 knockouts – would potentially bring about a September meeting with veteran former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs.

The 44-year-old Briggs, a former WBO world champion, lost world title challenges against Vitali Klitschko in 2010 and Britain’s Lennox Lewis in 1998.
Britain’s David Haye continued his comeback with a second-round stoppage of Kosovo’s Arnold Gjergjaj in London. A fierce right hook from Haye sent Gjergjaj sprawling.
“All of the big guys are in fights at the moment and I fought the guy who had the longest unbeaten record”.
Gjergjaj hadn’t been beaten in 29 fights but within 34 seconds of the first round and a celebrity crowd, including Jose Mourinho, Amir Khan and Danny Cipriani barely settled, he was down – a familiar and ferocious overhand right from Haye doing its usual damage.
“I would relish that fight and the people want to see that fight but next up for me Shannon Briggs”. Let us know what you think in the comments section below. He came over to England and talked a big game.
At least it was more of a work out for Haye (27-2, 25 KOs) than his last fight, when he blew away Australian Mark De Mori in just 131 seconds in January. Haye then dropped Gjergjaj two more times in round two, once with a jab, and the bout was waved off.
“I felt incredible”, said Haye, who now has 28 wins (26 KOs) and two defeats from 30 professional contests.
Gjergjaj’s best win so far came a year ago when he climbed off the canvas to beat Russian Denis Bakhtov – previously destroyed in two rounds by Briton Anthony Joshua – unanimously on points over 12 rounds.
“I need to be at my best”.

Haye’s next fight in September will be against American veteran Shannon Briggs, who knocked out Argentina’s Emilio Zarate on the undercard.
