New boss Pep Guardiola says he plans to “only be a coach” at Man City next season, keeping faith with the way he has previously worked.

While Guardiola may have failed to achieve his ultimate aim at the club-winning the Champions League-he enjoyed great success with Bayern, winning three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, the Uefa Super and the Fifa Club World Cup.

Speculations abound that Guardiola is intending to make Gundogan the substitute for current midfielder Yaya Touré, who is allegedly on his way out of the Etihad once his former Barcelona boss comes in this summer.

The Arsenal midfielder, whose playing contract ends next month, has rejected offers from the Gunners and their north London rivals Tottenham to join incoming City manager Pep Guardiola. He famously signed striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan in exchange for Samuel Eto’o and more than €40 million – a move that would see the Italian side oust Barca from the Champions League and win an historic Treble the following year.

Mikel Arteta has agreed to join the Manchester City coaching staff in the summer, Football Insider sources understand.

Guardiola was announced as taking over from the Chilean in February, but their were strong reports claiming the deal was done back in October, and he will have had plenty of time to eye up a number of targets to bring with him to his new side.
