“We came ready to play today and I thought we got off to a great start”, BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “The way they’re playing is really smart and they’re being really patient”. “That’s golf. You may get halfway through your round and conditions change”.

“Especially in the first nine, I had a few really close approach shots”, said Carta. The Dawgs improved upon their round one score by four strokes finishing at 3-under 285 following their 1-over 289 round one scorecard. “They’ve embraced what we’re doing and they’ve been such a coachable group”.

Austin Langdale had a 75 on Wednesday and finished in a tie for 15 place. OR is the host school for the championship. Both recovered from double-bogeys with strong finishes, Kim making birdies on three of her last five holes and almost added another on her last hole, the par-4 ninth. After two more pars, she took the turn at 1-under-par, and she ran her streak to five straight pars before making a bogey on the par-4 13th hole.

“Ying just has a determination that you don’t see very often in kids”, said Mulflur.

“Doubles always fire me up to make birdies”, said Kim, who credited several nice par saves for keeping her round going.

St. Leo continued to set a torrid pace as the frontrunner for the national title as they posted a team score of 273 to maintain an 11-stroke lead over Chico State.

Senior Catherine Peters and freshman Elodie Van Dievoet added rounds of 77 and are both tied for 102nd. In his first collegiate win, sophomore Franklin Huang beat out teammate Maverick McNealy, the No. 2 collegiate golfer in the nation, by two strokes with a 12-under-204.

“We’ve been struggling a little all season”, said Duke’s Leona Maguire, who avoided those big numbers in an opening 72. “You’re not going to hit every shot ideal, it was just a mis-hit, it happens but again, she bounced back and hit two birdies down the final stretch”.

Rounding out scoring for the Huskies was freshman Wenyung Keh. UW’s Julianne Alvarez also is tied for 19th at a 72 Saturday.

Alex White carded a 2-under-par 70 in Friday’s opening round to lead BYU to a 6-over 294 performance to finish tied for 11th at Eugene Country Club in Oregon.

The top of the team leaderboard is Pac-12 heavy as six of the top seven teams hail from the conference. A long-time powerhouse whose former players include Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa, the Wildcats won NCAA titles in 1996 and 2000, but will have to finish in the top eight at the end of stroke play Monday to advance to match play, through which the team title is determined. UW tees off on the first tee with USC and UCLA at 8:30 a.m.
