Orioles get LF Parra from Brewers for minor league pitcher

Sources told ESPN’s Jim Bowden that the Orioles will send pitching prospect Zach Davies to the Brewers for Parra, a versatile outfielder who was hitting.

During that span, Parra has hit.349/.393/.546 in 79 games. He’s batting.328/.369/.517 with 53 runs scored, 9 home runs, 31 RBIs and 9 stolen bases in 100 games this year. That’s a bit odd to say because Parra was always a defensive specialist with a middling bat. However against LHP, this number drops to 122 wRC+ for the season (in only 53 PA) and over his career a 63 wRC+.

Davies, 22, is an undersized pitcher at 6 foot, 150 pounds and was a 26th round draft pick out of high school in 2011 but performed well enough to rise to a No. 3 ranking among prospects in Baltimore’s organization.

CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman believes that the Orioles are the “best bet” to acquire Gerardo Parra from the Brewers.

Pitcher Tyler Thornburg has been recalled from Colorado Springs to Milwaukee. That said, Parra is a decent addition and could be similar to the team’s acquisition of Alejandro De Aza a season ago. John Sickels had him as the seventh-best in their system.

The 2015 season has been a breakout year for Davies, though, as he has notched a 2.84 ERA and 81 strikeouts over 101 innings pitched.

The Brewers are probably done making deals at this point, but never say never. The major change since last night is that the trade is one-for-one, with the Brewers apparently backing off of their demand for an additional piece beyond Davies.
