At least 6 killed after volcano eruption in Indonesia
Six people have been killed and dozens of animals burned alive after a volcanic eruption in western Indonesia. Dead and injured animals were lying on the ground, around them scorched homes and smoky vegetation.

The volcano continued to spew hot ash on Sunday, making it unsafe for rescuers, National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.
He said ash tumbled down the slopes as far as 4.5 kilometres westward into a river.

Sinabung is one of 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a belt of seismic activity running around the basin of the Pacific Ocean.

The deceased were all residents of Gamber, Karo regency, listed as a red zone by local authorities as the village is located within five kilometers of the Mount Sinabung crater.
The three farmers were killed inside the prohibited “red zone” near the slopes of the volcano, Indonesia’s disaster agency said.
