The team was praised at last night’s closing ceremony for demonstrating the “Invictus” spirit – which takes its name from the Latin for “unconquered” or “undefeated” – having loaned rival athletes from other nations their wheelchairs for use in a basketball match.
And Sgt Marks has now told Forces TV about how she made the decision, as well as her admiration for Prince Harry. They will be cheered on by thousands of spectators and family members.
Harry added: “The competition has been fierce with performances of the highest worldwide standard across a number of events”. I look forward to the time when it comes but at the moment I’m dad to 110 of these competitors, and well actually probably more like 500, but you know I feel incredibly proud.
“I might be missing a leg but there are people out there missing two and three limbs or are paralyzed from the waist down or chest down”.
Whenever there’s a big moment, Prince Harry is there to provide support and star quality to bring attention to the games.
“For me, as long as the venues are full, as long as these guys are enjoying themselves and lives are being changed right in front of you, we can’t possibly wish for more, ” he said.
Before the Invictus Games even started, Sergeant Elizabeth Marks was ranked No. 1 in the world in the 100-meter breaststroke by the International Paralympic Committee.
The 2016 games are taking place from May 8 through May 12 in Orlando, Fla.

According to the Invictus Games Foundation website, the Games uses the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country, as well as their loved ones and caretakers. She finished all of her events Wednesday in the pool, and now can enjoy the remainder of the games as a spectator and teammate.
