Blues eliminate Stars from the playoffs, winning 6-1
“I could have stopped nearly every goal in the first period”, added his brother, Bob. He thought he had.

Kari Lehtonen is expected to get the start in net for Dallas, which has given the nod to the Finn in nine of its 12 playoff games, including the last three.
“Jeff (Reese, goaltending coach) helped him make some adjustments to his game”.
Are you ready for Game 7? Like the Blues in previous games, the Stars put many of their shots just wide or they were blocked.
Even after the Blues had their 2-0 lead with 2:21 remaining reversed after Vladimir Tarasenko was ruled offside before his goal, they wasted little time getting that goal back on the board. St. Louis finished the regular season with 107 points to finish second in the West, two points behind the Stars, while San Jose finished third in the Pacific Division with 98 points and Nashville claimed the first wild card spot after finishing the campaign with 96 points.
If Dallas does want to blow up the goaltending position and start fresh, they won’t find a quick fix in their farm system.
After giving up three goals on seven shots in Monday’s Game 6, Jake Allen came in to relieve Elliott stopping the seven shots the Stars threw at him.
It was the fourth straight game in the series, and fifth overall, won by the visiting team, and an anticlimactic finish to a second-round series matching the Western Conference’s top two teams in the regular season.
“A lot of times you learn from your losses. It hardens you, makes you better”, he said of Lehtonen’s checkered past.
“Right now is not the time to assess blame”, Ruff said. Not in Game 7, it wasn’t. “Some nights it’s just not their night”.
The Blues are now 1-3 in chances to clinch in these playoffs, including 1-2 on home ice. And the night couldn’t have gone much better for Elliott or much worse for Lehtonen. Lehtonen stopped the initial shot by Brouwer with a pad save, but Fabbri popped in the carom for his third goal of the playoffs.
Steen’s goal on a rebound of Robert Bortuzzo’s shot gave the Blues life in the second period.
“We know we’re one of the last four teams standing, and we’re halfway to our ultimate goal”, said captain David Backes. Big reprieve? Um, no.
The Blues fell behind quickly 3-0 and despite a furious comeback fell to 1-3 in games when they have a chance to eliminate their opponent with a 3-2 defeat.
Remember those four seconds?
That’s kind of how it was going.
Moments later at 18:22 the Blues were 2-0 up.
St. Louis also needed seven games to win its first-round series this postseason, beating the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago.
Brian Elliott was back in goal for the Blues and had 31 saves.
The Blues might have won this game anyhow, but this win came far too easily when the dam burst on Lehtonen, who is well known to implode after small spates of success. With the Penguins win, whoever wins tonight will have home ice throughout the playoffs.

“To play in the conference final, I know as a coach here in Dallas I took it for granted and it was a big mistake”, Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said.
