Nepal mountaineering authorities said Sunday that dozens of climbers had taken ill on the mountain in recent days.

A Dutch man and an Australian woman died of apparent altitude sickness while descending from the summit of Mount Everest in the first deaths this year on the world’s highest mountain.
Another member of the agency, Pemba Sherpa, identified her as Seema Goshwami of India.
“We are really so glad that it seems that he’ll make it”, Strydom’s sister, Aletta Newman, told Australian Associated Press from her home in Brisbane. On Saturday, Maria Strydom of Australia also died on her way down the mountain.
“She was exhausted and energy was down, there was enough oxygen to supply for her to give energy continuing back around altitude of 7800 metres”, he said. They climbed Denali in Alaska, Aconcagua in Argentina, Mount Ararat in Turkey, and Kilamanjaro in Tanzania.
Strydom and Arnold are the first fatalities on Everest since expeditions resumed this year after last year’s natural disaster caused an avalanche that killed 19 people at base camp.
‘Two-thirds of the accidents happen on the way down, ‘ he said.
The death of the Australian woman was the second on Everest this year and could hit mountaineering in Nepal, where a massive quake last year killed at least 18 people at Everest Base Camp. “He suffered high altitude pulmonary oedema, they’ll chopper him down to Kathmandu and probably fly him either to Singapore or to Melbourne”, Heinz Gropel said.
Mr Arnold, who had finally reached the top of the mountain on his fifth try, told the Dutch broadcaster RTV Rjnmond previous year the majority of accidents happened when someone is on the way down. “If you get euphoric and think ‘I have reached my goal, ‘ the most risky part is still ahead of you”.
“The Monash University community is deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of Dr Strydom on Mount Everest”, the statement said.
This year more than 330 climbers have reached the summit from Nepal since May 11, and several more have reached from the northern routes in Tibet.
The risks are well-known as more than 250 people have died on the mountain.
“On Saturday, they were tired and could not return to the camp”.

Paresh Nath and Goutam Ghosh have been missing since Saturday and were last seen near the Everest summit, the expedition organiser said. “Why can’t you contact the family before we have to find out this way?”
