Porter is reminding all Imperial County residents ages 18 and up that the deadline to register or re-register to vote for the June 7 Primary Election is Monday, May 23rd.

Kelley said “no party preference” voters can easily resolve problems on election day – including those who didn’t receive the ballot they wanted in the mail.

Alternatively, physical voter registration forms can be accessed at the Butte County Elections Office at 155 Nelson Ave.in Oroville. In other cases, counties didn’t tell voters they could cast a ballot in person. For people registered as Democrats, the process is straightforward, but for no party preference voters, also known as independents, it’s tricky.

If you want to vote for a presidential candidate in the Green, Peace and Freedom or Republican parties, you must re-register with that party by May 23. May 31 is the current deadline to request a ballot by mail. The deadline to re-register for a different party or no party preference is Monday. Registration forms are available on the website. Officials in those counties pointed to ongoing efforts to clear the voter rolls of outdated listings and of those who haven’t voted in years.

The lawsuit alleges California’s presidential primary rules relating to independent voters may keep thousands of voters from being able to cast a presidential ballot June 7. Democrats have opened up their primary between Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen.

To do so, those voters must request a presidential ballot.

“They can take that ballot in and surrender it”, he said. Forms are also available at the Registrar’s office in Kearny Mesa, U.S. post offices, public libraries, City Clerk’s offices and the DMV.

The plaintiffs include a Bay Area Bernie Sanders support group called the Voting Rights Defense Project, the American Independence Party -which is a conservative party – and two voters.
