Speaking out about his and Gwen’s pretty surprising romance on the daytime talk show, Shelton opened up about his and Stefani’s relationship with Ellen and spoke out about what inspired him two write their new duet, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart”. The couple met on “The Voice”, have only been together for 7 months, but based on the bedroom eyes they were giving each other while singing, it feels like the two have been in love for much, much longer.
After all, he had just divorced fellow country singer Miranda Lambert after four years of marriage, and the No Doubt front woman had just ended her 13-year marriage with Gavin Rossdale. “The story is that he had written this song and sent it to me on my phone”, Gwen said during a recent appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Netflix series Chelsea. “But what I found out, for the reason that it wasn’t a person from my hometown, it was Gwen Stefani that I was beginning to have this relationship with”.
