India mudslide: More than 20 feared dead

At least 20 people were killed when a landslide buried a whole village in the remote Joupi area of Indian state Manipur’s Chandel district bordering Myanmar yesterday, police said.

Police reinforcements have been struggling which takes you to the territory which was trim by pavement owing to large pours down within the last several days, Singh said.

T.S. Warngam, a vice president of the United Naga Council, a civil society organization, said that 20 villagers were feared to have been swept away by the landslide and that one villager was rescued.

Rescue teams were dispatched to the village.

Due to excessive rains key highways have been cut off, villages have drowned under heavy water leading to thousands rendered homeless. Low lying areas of many Manipur districts along with agricultural fields in the four valley and Thoubal district are flooded. The rivers flowing through the state have crossed the danger mark. In capital Imphal, the low-lying areas and it’s outskirts are completely inundated.

Mad locals, however, allege that the state government has not done enough to help those affected by the floods.
