Washington Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland added injury to insult on a Friday he most likely wants to forget.

“He’s being evaluated for his injury”, Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said.

Breeland, 23, was cited for possession of marijuana in August 2014 on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Breeland went down to the turf shortly after the NFL announced he would be suspended for the Redskins’ regular-season opener against Miami for violating the substance abuse policy.

The 23-year-old started 15 games as a rookie last season, recording 69 tackles and grabbing two interceptions.

The Redskins now have no comment on Breeland’s pending suspension.

David Amerson, Breeland and Hall were all expected to compete for the second starting cornerback back job, opposite of free-agent acquisition Chris Culliver.

When asked why the punishment comes so much later, “I have no idea”, Gruden said.
