Peugeot introduces most-advanced, compact SUV before Paris Motor Show debut

This is refreshing among so many evolutionary generations and the compact segment crossover is treated to PSA’s EMP2 platform which is also underneath the 308 – with the new SUV saving some 220 pounds (100 kilograms) compared to its predecessor, all the while being stretched by eight centimeters.

The French auto maker will launch a range of firsts with its new 3008, including the first SUV built on our highly applauded EMP2, the first Peugeot to feature a wireless charging dock, the first to feature a scooter (we’re really not kidding, there’s a scooter in the boot), and the first to feature the next generation i-Cockpit interior.

Take the exterior of the 2017 Peugeot 3008, there are more creases than ever before, which does make the vehicle have a higher waistline than the current model, and so makes this look even more like a proper SUV.

United Kingdom orders for the 3008 open in November before which full prices and specifications will be revealed.

It’s only fair to share.

At the heart of the car’s infotainment system is an 8.0-inch touch-screen (accompanied by six “shortcut” keys to take the driver straight through to the stereo, sat-nav, climate control and so on), which offers features such as 3D navigation and MirrorLink, as well as being compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, both of which provide voice-recognition through an integrated smartphone. The 1.2-litre PureTech petrol has 128bhp and comes with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, while the 1.6-litre petrol with 163bhp only gets the automatic transmission.

The new evolution of Peugeot’s digital interface is a significant one, although buyers familiar with the 208 and 308 models might also welcome the return of physical controls to the centre stack – complementing the on-screen controls more notably than in the i-Cockpit system’s existing form.

The 3008’s graduation also means an additional 24mm and 36mm of rear legroom and headroom respectively, while its new seats-up 520-litre (VDA) rear storage allowance is 90 litres greater than before. There’s also a hands-free tailgate in the mix.

The powertrains consist of range of turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines.

The entry-level oil-burner is the 75kW 1.6-litre BlueHDi with five-speed manual cogset, followed by the 88kW 1.6 BlueHDi with six manual speeds in standard or very-low consumption versions, or with six-speed auto in standard version only. There’s no official word yet on economy or emissions, but Peugeot does claim that at least one diesel will be capable of dipping under the 100g/km of Carbon dioxide mark for road-tax exemption. It boasts the Active Safety Brake and Distance Alert, driver attention warning, automatic adaptive headlamp main-beam, Adaptive Cruise Control and active blind spot monitoring.

It will be presented to the public for the first time at the 2016 Paris Motorshow and will go on sale worldwide from October.
