She ended by holding her award aloft and declaring, “Rene, this one’s for you, the show must go on”, echoing the title of the Queen song she had just performed.

At Sunday’s 2016 Billboard Music Awards, we saw one of the most moving, brave, and gallant performances by Celine Dion.

She broke down in tears during the ceremony when son René-Charles made a surprise appearance on stage to present her with the Icon Award. “I can not live with a regret, but this, I do”, Dion said.

In the summer of 2016, in-between performances of her hit Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Celine will head overseas for a limited run of global shows in Antwerp, Paris, Montreal and Quebec City.

The gala kicked off with a tribute to Britney Spears, who at age 34 was picked for the Millenium Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements and influence within the music industry. Backed by an orchestra and talented violinist Lindsey Stirling, Dion raised her hands to the sky and even did a little hip shake to make for the uplifting moment of the night. “Going through three years of helping my husband, especially seeing him suffering in a way, I feel at peace”. The singer stood by her word. “You left me now with enough good memories of you to share with my younger brothers”, he said of 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.

“My beloved husband whom I know will continue to watch over me from up above”, she said.

Celine Dion was away singing when Rene Angelil died.

Pink also impressed with her performance – featuring her signature high-flying moves – while she sang her new song, Just Like Fire. Oh, my God. It’s not the reason why I’m doing that.
